„And what happens after…“ – ja wonach eigentlich. Was ist das ‚Davor’, das ‚Danach’ und die kausale Kette, die beide verbindet. Im Falle von Denis Kuhnert’ Stück sind es die zwischenmenschlichen Verbindungen, die Verstrickungen und Verbindlichkeiten, Rituale und wiederkehrenden Obsessionen die ein davor und danach generieren. Im Duett der beiden Tänzer Julio Cesar Iglesias Ungo & Christine Joy Alpuerto Ritter entsteht ein tänzerischer Diskurs, der sich aus klassischen Elementen, wie auch aus modernen und avantgardistischen Elementen speist und doch unmittelbar und intim wirkt.

Mit hoher tänzerische Qualität thematisieren Tänzer und Choreograph Evolutionsszenarien einer Beziehung, ‚sprechen’ über Erfahrungen die uns allen geläufig sind und manchmal auch wehtun. Dabei geht es hier nur teilweise um das Zwischenmenschliche. Gleichermaßen ist „An what happens after…“ auch eine Introspektion, eine Innenschau in die Welt der persönlichen Gefühle und Konflikte. Wer ergreift wann die Initiative, wer steuert wen und wie, wie werden Regeln verhandelt und wie können persönliche Dämonen die Überhand gewinnen und manchmal auch die Beziehung zerstören. Dabei ist „And what happens after…“ kein pessimistischer Abgesang auf die Beziehungsunfähigkeit moderner Menschen sondern bietet die Möglichkeit der Selbstreflektion.

Mit visceraler Energie tanzen Julio Cesar Iglesias Ungo & Christine Joy Alpuerto Ritter den ewigen Konflikt zwischen Mann und Frau, nähern und entfernen sich, entfremden, vertrauen, verletzen und vergeben einander um schließlich das davor und danach nicht mehr voneinander trennen zu können. Denis Kuhnert und seine Tänzer erreichen dies in einer auf ein absolutes Minimum reduzierten Szenerie. Die Entblößtheit der Bühne spiegelt ihre persönliche Blöße und Intimität wieder und gewährleistet eine Nähe zum Publikum die manchmal schwer zu ertragen sein kann. Es geht hier jedoch niemals um pure Schockeffekte, sondern um eine Authentizität, eine Direktheit, ohne die auch eine Beziehung nicht funktionieren kann.

„And what happens after…“ – what after anyway? What’s the before and after and what is the chain of causality that binds them together? In the case of Denis Kuhnert’ choreography it is the bindings of a relationship, the mutual consensus about the reciprocity of dependencies. These rituals and recurring obsessions generate a before and after. In their seemingly effortless duo the two dancers Julio Cesar Iglesias Ungo & Christine Joy Alpuerto Ritter are inventing a wordless conversation using the means of classical, contemporary and avantgardistic traditions but rendering an intimate performance of the high and low points of every relationship.

With outmost skill and passion the dancers and choreograph invent an evolutionary scenario that deals with the in-between workings and development of a partnership that is sometimes difficult to bear in its intensity. But “And what happens after…” is more than that: it is introspection, a dissection almost of the inner world of personal emotions and conflicts. Who takes the initiative when and to what end. How are dealings and rules organized and structured and how (sometimes) do personal daemons rip a relationship apart? Besides that the piece is more than just about our modern incapacity to engage in intimate dealings, it is a chance for self-reflection – to look beyond the failing and learn from our mistakes.

With visceral energy the two dancers Julio Cesar Iglesias Ungo & Christine Joy Alpuerto Ritter perform and reinvent the everlasting conflict between a man and a woman. They get closer and grow apart, trust each other, merge and still end up alienated and estranged. Dennis Kuhnert and his dancers accomplish their task by stripping everything useless away including set or décor. It is about the inner world, the nakedness of the stage leaves no room for hiding and the apparent bareness leaves room for the intimacy without whom no relationship can function properly. This directness and authenticity is the verve of this production that generates closeness to the audience that can be sometimes hard to bare. In the end though “And what happens after…” is not (just) about ripping each others guts out… it is about the beauty of every kind of endeavour that humans undergo when trying to love.
